How to write a Science CV

Top tips for your science CV

  • Keep it simple, easy to read and straight to the point
  • Take the time to tailor your CV to the role you are applying for
  • Show-off your experience and never assume the hiring manager will know what your experience is in. 


  • Specify what skills you have used under each of your positions rather than having a skills summary under the personal profile.
  • A hiring manager wants to see where you have gained your experience within industry. 
  • List your tasks/responsibilities in bullet point form as it is much easier to read and is clear and concise.
  • Highlight achievements under your roles e.g. a specific project being successfully completed

What should you not include

  • College subjects from Bachelor’s degree (PhD information can be more relevant)
  • Leaving Cert results
  • Any skills that you have obtained from college that you have not used in industry e.g. HPLC
  • Misleading information - this will come to light - always be honest 

Key science skills to make a CV stand out

  • Analytical testing skills including: HPLC, GC, Dissolution and troubleshooting skills
  • Wet Chemistry including titrations, pH, auetc.
  • Method/Process Validation, development and transfer
  • Endotoxin, Bioburden, Environmental Monitoring, Sterility Testing 
  • Water testing
  • Scale up/Scale down
  • Compliance, CMC, Pharmacovigilance, Medical Information, Regulatory Submissions and Dossiers
  • MA or market authorisations, Trial Master File or TMF, NDA
  • Drug Master Files/Active Substance Master Files,
