The role involves dealing with multiple stakeholders in a cross functional capacity within KBC Ireland and KBC Belgium.

The Business:

KBC Life and Pensions is the Irish insurance branch of KBC Insurance NV and is part of a major European Financial Services Group, the KBC Group which is headquartered in Brussels. KBC Life and Pensions is building a range of insurance solutions for the Irish market.

The Role:

KBC Life and Pensions are defining the development, testing and implementation of an integrated Bancassurance model for KBC in Ireland. The role involves dealing with multiple stakeholders in a cross functional capacity within KBC Ireland and KBC Belgium. The successful candidate will support the delivery of a differentiated end to end customer journey through a digitally enabled underwriting proposition and be key to its ongoing management.

Essential Duties

  • Is the SME for the first line underwriting engine.
  • Is the first point of contact with the vendor on features and functionality of the underwriting engine.
  • Manages day to day issues and relationship with the 2nd line underwriting vendor.
  • Liaises and corresponds with the Underwriting team on referred cases.
  • Liaises with the Senior Underwriter on applications referred for underwriting.
  • Liaises with 2nd line requirements vendor on requirements that were ordered, completed, outstanding, to be cancelled, etc.
  • Reviews/analyses the underwriting MI. Participates in branch and company reviews and decisions/outcomes of the review.
  • Corresponds and liaises with the Distributor on underwriting queries and statuses of cases in underwriting.
  • Responds to customers' queries and their challenges on the underwriting decisions where non-standard decisions were made, e.g. ratings, exclusions declines etc.
  • Work independently on multiple project streams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Interact with multiple teams to ensure project objectives are being attained.
  • Identify and mitigate project quality assurance risks through escalation of issues to appropriate members of the project team and management.
  • Collaborate with all departments and employees in a professional manner.

Knowledge, education and experience

  • Has experience in developing and maintaining question sets and underwriting rules in an automated underwriting engine.
  • Has received training from Reinsurer, and has experience in dealing with a Reinsurer.
  • Is familiar with new business processes and supports
  • Has an underwriting background with experience in underwriting life risk, serious illness and income protection.
  • Diploma in Life and Disability underwriting
  • 3-5 years of experience in the Life Assurance sector an advantage
  • Ability to operate without close supervision.

  • Strong partnership skills and an ability to clearly define and control areas of ownership.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as the role will involve interaction with the local / group teams and software vendor.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to operate without close supervision.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite .
  • Experience using JIRA would be an advantage
