Role Purpose

Enterprise Ireland (EI) is the government organisation responsible for the development and growth of Irish enterprises in world markets. We work in partnership with Irish enterprises to help them start, grow, innovate and win export sales on global markets.

Engagement with our clients is through a Client Engagement Model (CEM) which is organised around the 6 business pillars of Strategy, Sales & Marketing, Operations, Innovation, People & Management and Finance. Enterprise Ireland seeks to fill a position with an experienced accounting and finance professional in the Finance Pillar.

This role is client focused and the individual appointed to this role will have specific responsibility for:

  • assessing the overall financial capability within client companies;
  • determining if this capability is adequate/appropriate for the stage of development and growth ambitions of the company;
  • developing a series of actions to improve the financial structure and capabilities within the client company;
  • assessing the funding requirements of the company and assisting them to access the required funding.

The successful candidate will also work closely with key internal and external stakeholders to help develop and enhance a funding landscape that is both supportive and responsive to the needs of our clients in each of our key sectors.

The successful candidate will develop the Finance Pillar as part of the CEM, signposting clients to appropriate external solutions and guiding them to develop a Finance action plan.  The Senior Client Financial Advisor will develop a panel of external providers to deliver solutions and will work closely with EI Programme Managers to support identification of company capability gaps and develop appropriate blended solutions to address key needs. In addition, the person appointed will play an active role in the establishment, monitoring and development of key ‘access to finance’ initiatives and will ensure the proper oversight and governance of these initiatives.


Key Deliverables

  • Work as part of the Finance Pillar team on the continued development and implementation of the Finance pillar as part of EI's Client Engagement Model.
  • Engage companies in a collaborative diagnosis of the financial challenges they face as they scale on international markets, in line with EI's CEM.
  • Using a structured approach, facilitate client CEOs/senior management to diagnose and understand their financial capability and funding requirements and assist them in securing the funding they require.
  • Support companies to identify suitable solutions to address the financial challenges they face and assist companies to drive the implementation of agreed action plans using a rage of internal and external resources.
  • Develop and manage a panel of external experts to support the delivery of the above assessments/diagnostics.
  • Identify gaps in the existing funding landscape. Shape and influence external and internal stakeholders to ensure that there are adequate and appropriate funding solutions for our clients at all stages of their development.
  • Maintain and enhance the key relationships that EI has with existing debt and equity funding providers and ensure that the 'access to finance' platform is scalable and focused on the needs of our key clients and Sectors.
  • Develop and effectively communicate key 'access to finance' messaging.
  • Monitor and evaluate international and domestic markets in relation to the wider 'access to finance' policy. Share international and SME best practice with companies and internally within EI.
  • Successfully deliver and implement various funding initiatives from inception, through Board approval and final implementation and monitoring.
  • Identify overall financial capability issues within the EI Client base and seek to develop appropriate training modules to address these issues. Develop and deliver an effective and efficient platform for building financial capability for our clients and internal staff.
  • Focus on strengthening the key financial management capability of the clients in our portfolio in order to safeguard the sustainability of these clients thereby protecting direct equity income in the future.
  • Coach and mentor other staff members to strengthen the wider Enterprise Ireland team's knowledge and expertise of the area.

Functional Competencies

  • A professional Accountancy Qualification (ACA, ACCA or similar) and relevant post-qualification experience is essential.
  • Experience of working in business financial planning with SMEs across a range sectors and stages of development is essential. A mix of manufacturing and service industry experience would be desirable.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of key financial challenges faced by companies as they develop and grow internationally and a demonstrated in-depth understanding of how to ensure they have the appropriate financial structures in place to meet these challenges is essential.
  • Experience in using a consultative approach with senior management teams to diagnose the financial capability of that company is essential.
  • Experience of assimilating/interpreting complex data and providing relevant and critical analysis to key stakeholders, together with proven ability to prepare and present key reports/position papers to relevant stakeholders is essential.
  • Strong financial modelling skills with the capability to assist companies in scenario planning.
  • Understanding of the current and future trends shaping the local and international funding landscape and how this will impact the ability of SMEs to secure capital.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with a range of domestic and international capital providers (from equity to debt) coupled with knowledge of the appropriate funding sources for SMEs and experience of fund raising with SMEs.
  • Proven ability to create, develop and implement innovative strategic initiatives to meet the funding needs of EI clients.
  • Experience of developing and delivering an effective and efficient platform for building financial capability for clients and internal staff.
  • Proven ability to manage a complex workload, deal with multiple demands and competing priorities to tight deadlines, coupled with a record of achieving targets.
  • Strong networking skills with an ability to develop and expand on an existing contact base within the funding community.

Salary Scale:

€67,659 to €82,563 per annum contributory superannuation

Rising to €87,484 long service increments.

€65,352 to €78,564 per annum non-contributory superannuation

Rising to €83,240 by long service increments

Candidates should note that entry will be at the minimum of the relevant scale and the rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy. Subject to satisfactory performance, increments may be payable in line with current Government Policy.
