Mechanical Deign Engineer - Cork

Due to the continued growth and success of an ever expanding medical device company based in Cork City, I'm looking to speak to all Mechanical Design or Product Design Engineers looking to move into a new and exciting challenge. Fantastic opportunity has just become available to join a forward-thinking Medical Device company who promotes in-house advancement due to their supportive structure.

About The Position

Reporting to the Operations and General Managers, and working within a well-established Design Team, as a Mechanical Design Engineer you will be responsible within the design and developing new and existing innovative electro-mechanical product concepts.

Some responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:

  • Ensuring all work is carried out in an efficient and effective manner
  • Liaise with clients, acting as the first point of contact regarding individual projects. Overseeing projects from initial concept, detailed design, assembly and testing keeping them on schedule and within budget.
  • Participation in CAPA projects, working closely with cross functional teams, which include; Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Engineering to identify any quality or process issues.
  • Delivery of RFT designs, utilising in-house systems to develop 2D and 3D drawings.
  • Lead the resolution of technical design issues or queries as they arise.
  • Liaise with purchasing department regarding the procurement of material and components
  • Accompany the senior team with client presentations, project reviews and helping to maintain the clients high standard of customer service
  • Adhering to best practice methods to design engineering projects in line with customer requirements
  • Work well within change control processes. Provide design support to and lead engineering change requests including product improvements and change requests.
  • Interacting with other departments as part of the design process to ensure relevant points are captured and knowledge is shared

About The Person

The Mechanical Design Team require a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Sciences, Biomedical Engineering or Electrical Engineering candidates with a minimum of 1 year experience. Experience with Solidworks is beneficial but not essential as experience across additional 3D design softwares will also be acceptable, such as Creo and Autodesk Inventor.

Experience in conceptual design is required for this position. Previous experience in coming up with conceptual designs from client briefs is highly beneficial.

The ideal candidate would have hands on experience within a regulated environment, particularly within the medical device industry.

It is also imperative that you have strong interpersonal skills with excellent attention to detail in a fast paced environment. Previous exposure in working within a regulated environment would be beneficial. The ideal candidate will also need to have an an enquiring mind with an analytical approach to problem solving and an ability to visualise simple solutions for complex problems.

Previous exposure to managing projects from start to finish is extremely advantageous where you were ensuring projects are completed to a high standard and on schedule. Finally, the successful candidate will also need to have the ability to work with a high degree of accuracy, be positive, driven and be able to work with minimum supervision.
