About this position

The Global Category Manager position has a direct influence on business results with all of Aptiv's business sectors. Annual spend under management is $840 million USD. Areas under management include resins, chemicals, and specialty materials as well as functional and decorative plastic parts. In this role, the manager engages with senior leadership to understand business requirements and ultimately define the supply and sourcing strategy. The position has global scope that includes leadership of the global buyer team as they negotiate and implement the supply strategy. Additionally, the role will include the implementation of resin managed buy with Aptiv's outside injection molding suppliers.

This role is an integral part of the Strategic Sourcing organization based in Dublin, Ireland. The global manager is reporting to the Sourcing Director.

Responsibilities and duties

  • Develop category (commodity) strategies that create competitive advantage and capture value for the product lines
    • Identify/acquire product line and corporate business requirements
    • Achieve targeted category material cost performance for product lines
    • Participate in relevant engineering "future direction" strategy groups
    • Develop and maintain robust category strategy; globally and by region
    • Ensure volume leverage, supply base optimization, and supply base competitiveness
    • Qualify/select/approve suppliers for CASL (category approved supplier list)
    • Develop localization strategy
    • Identify and introduce supplier innovation
  • Lead supplier relationship management
    • Build and maintain major cross product line supplier and CASL relationships, leading major cross-product line negotiations as required
    • Lead negotiations of corporate-wide supplier contracts/CASL suppliers including, but not limited to, payment terms and Master Terms & Conditions
    • Monitor supplier performance and reevaluate capabilities
    • Create, lead and monitor supplier development/improvement plans
  • Lead and manage team members and activities
    • Ensure sourcing excellence and internal controls
    • Promote cost management activities

Basic qualifications (R) - required, (D) - desired

  • The candidate will have a bachelor's degree in engineering or business. (R)
  • An advanced degree, such as an MBA, is preferred (D)
  • The candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of total experience and specific experience purchasing subject components (R)
  • Fluent in written and spoken English (R)
  • Ability to travel both locally and globally (approximately 10% of working time) (R)
  • Knowledge of resin materials and global supply base (R)
  • Empowered decision maker/relationship-builder with high integrity (R)
  • Strong problem solving skills (R)
  • Access to best industry practice, industry trends, and supply/demand and thorough understanding of products (R)
  • Oral and written communication plus "influencing" skills (R)
  • Ability to create and promote best in class category strategies by integrating market with Aptiv product line objectives (R)
  • Skills to analyze supplier financial information and capability (R)
