My name is Joanne Murphy and I’m a Scientific Recruitment Consultant.
Did I always plan on getting into Recruitment – absolutely not! I don’t think anyone aspires to be a Recruiter like they do say a Nurse, Engineer or a Scientist. I actually went to college and studied Applied Biosciences in CIT.
After 5 years of the hard slog in CIT studying Science, I started my career in an Environmental Lab in Kerry with Southern Scientific Services testing soil. My lab days were short lived as I knew I wanted to travel and I jumped ship to sunny Australia for a year. I spent my first few months in Sydney doing what most Irish girls do - Traffic Controlling AND I loved it! After a few months of travelling, traffic controlling and couch surfing I knew I wanted to extend my stay in Australia and headed to Queensland to do my farm work. I was mustering cattle in Regional Queensland and Traffic Controlling in Western Australia…… a walk in the park in comparison to recruitment! After three tough months, mentally and physically I had finally secured my visa, I went back to Sydney and fell in the door to the world of Recruitment.
I worked as a Senior Scientific Recruitment Consultant in Sydney for a number of years hiring across Pharma, Med Device, FMCG and Environmental organisations. After 4+ years I decided I’d like a change and moved to an internal Talent Acquisition Team with a large Global Pharma company. It was a great experience and being “on the inside” has given me a great understanding and helps me with how I manage my desk in Morgan McKinley today. The time to “grow up” and move home started to creep upon me when a lot of my long standing friends in Australia were coming back to the motherland. I too started to explore my options and the future at home looked promising. And here I am after 7 delightful years, a lot of travelling (some glamorous, some not) and a lot of treasured memories, I’m home.
Upon moving back to Ireland late last year, I joined Morgan McKinley in January working on the Science team alongside my three fantastic and helpful colleagues, Michelle Ahern (senior positions within Science), Katie Crowley (QC Specialist - Cork) and Aoife Duggan (QC Specialist - Dublin).
I myself specialise in the areas of Analytical Chemists, Process Chemists, Process Development Chemists, Clinical Trials, Med Info, Pharmacovigilance and Regulatory Affairs for Cork and the West of Ireland.
