Shannon Chamber welcomes An Taoiseach Enda Kenny

As a regular attendee to the Shannon Chamber events it was great to see such a large number of local businesses attending the President’s lunch. A crowd of close to 300 people gathered in Dromoland Castle to lend their ears to An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny.

Having received a security warning email late last week and given the recent large protests nationwide, we were expecting a large hostile protest but for once I’m glad to say my imagination got the better of me. Although it did bring a sense of excitement to the event!

Expecting an inspiring Mid-West focused speech was probably overly ambitious as Mr. Kenny launched into his somewhat scripted political party piece. Amongst the Fine Gael party update and defence of the water charges, Enda did highlight the fact that there is clear evidence of the Mid-West fighting back against the recession. Some interesting targets he mentioned were to have all debt cleared by 2018, begin a multi-annual tax reduction plan from this year forward and to have all lost jobs back in the coming 2 years.

Admittedly Enda isn’t the most inspirational of speakers, however, I will say that amongst the government strategy spiel, it was evident that he has a clear vision for the Mid West and all signs thus far are very positive.

Recently we have seen a number of IDA backed clients as well as large indigenous companies begin expansion plans that will continue well into 2015 and beyond. This bodes well for any professionals looking to move on from there current roles or potentially make a move back closer to home.

If you’re currently looking to move back to the Midwest or Midlands area, feel free to give me a call for a confidential chat. I'd be delighted to assist you in your search.
