How can you get involved in Science Week (12th - 19th November)? #BelieveinScience

Stephen O'Brien 10.11.2017

This is the 22nd year of Science Week with 12 regional festivals and 900 events across Ireland so everybody can get involved - a great opportunity for those who want to get in touch with their inner scientist!

Science week is upon us!  The science industry is booming at the moment with constant growth and expansion of companies. With this growth there is an increase in demand for more people to join the science industry. Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) brought in science week which helps the public to gain information on the industry as well as giving people a taster for science in both an industrious and domestic way.
Smart is coordinated and managed by the SFI to provide career resources to teacher, students and anyone in Ireland who is interested in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).
There are many ways to get involved such as:

UCC are holding a Celebrate Science day on Nov 12th with over 30 providers offering workshops, demonstrations and tours.

Cocktail Chemistry at Edison Thurs 16th

Cocktail making sessions held by a team from Queens University Belfast show you how science can change your perception of colour and taste.

The science of distillation at Teeling Whiskey Distillery, Thurs 16th

This fantastic opportunity to see the full art of distillation and creation of whiskey as well as some ‘sensory analysis’ (tasting)!

Gastronomy at Castle Leslie Sun 19th

This free workshop gives you the opportunity to taste some of Head Chef Darragh Dooley’s creations including starters, mains and appetisers as well as giving cooking demonstrations with some scientific twists.

I recruit for QC and microbiology roles in Ireland so if you are interested in hearing about opportunities in those areas, please feel free to contact me.
