The rise of DevOps in the West of Ireland..

Chris Hartnett 26.03.2019

The technology market continues to go from strength to strength in the capital of the West - Galway.

A sure as 2019 is the year of the pig in China, it can be considered the year of technology in Galway. I’m not the only person to notice the market in Galway go from strength to strength, some of the top tech talent from Dublin and further afield have done so too. Tech professionals are now viewing Galway as a career location of choice due to the great array of SME and Multinational companies on its doorstep as well as its unrivalled lifestyle.  With many professionals finding the race to get on the property ladder in Dublin extremely challenging, looking West to Galway has become a viable option due to the value for money compared to the capital city.

The tech growth in the West is predominantly on the DevOps side. Galway is more than a cultural mecca, it is now bursting with companies using the latest technologies in order to aid the development of Industry 4.0. For example, an excellent company that I’m currently working with have decided to grow their existing DevOps team, from scratch. The main requirements for these positions are;

• DevOps Engineers with strong coding skills

 •Excellence in Automation

• A flawless understanding of CI/CD pipelines.

One thing that you can be sure of in Galway is work/life balance. Galway doesn’t have to be all work, work, work, there are some excellent things to do there outside of the 9 to 5. There’s a fantastic atmosphere at the market on a Saturday morning, and the Latin Quarter is generally a hive of activity. Being a 10 minute drive from the beach on summer evenings is also a great. Overall, the warm welcome that you get from the people living in Galway is by far the best, trust me as I’ve seen it first hand!

If you’re looking for your next DevOps opportunity, I would be interested in speaking with you. Whether you’re living locally, or overseas, it would be great to discuss the endless possibilities that Galway has to offer.
