Friday evening last, 20th June 2015 was a balmy, pleasant evening in Limerick city with a promise of a weekend of rest and relaxation after a hectic week in the world of recruitment! My colleague Hannah McInerney and I wrapped up our busy week and departed for Limerick Race Course for a wonderful evening, courtesy of Grant Thornton.
The challenges within the economy have been tough in recent years amongst accountancy firms, and indeed particularly within recruitment. I have felt a particularly palpable lift in the market since January this year and it’s very welcome indeed. For those of us who have become used to the extra pressures within a recessionary economy, it is a welcome reward to see things stabilise. It’s important to celebrate these times as we have demonstrated our resilience as a nation.
Accountancy firms’ growth reflect the growth within organisations all around the country and this was indeed reported on in my colleague Niall Hughes’ blog earlier this year.
The atmosphere within the suite was light and the conversation optimistic. As a Ladies’ Event, it was interesting to find out the areas that others worked in and there was a general camaraderie when somebody won on a race. For someone who has worked in Ireland during the boom and the recession, I’ve seen corporate events of all types. One thing that really rang true last Friday was that everybody is glad that we have finally reached the end of the dark tunnel since 2008 and hope dawns for us all. For your next career move and “light at the end of your tunnel”, I’d love to help. Call my team or I today!
