Highlights

  • The monitor recorded a 33% month-on-month increase in professional job vacancies in January 2017.
  • There was a 56% month-on-month increase in the number of professionals active in the job market between January 2017 and December 2016.
  • One in two professional positions available in the first month of the year represented regional opportunities which is a new trend when compared to the same period in 2016 when the trend was towards more urban centred positions.
  • In light of Brexit the largest number of inquiries are currently coming from UK based Asian Financial Services institutions who are contingency planning
  • In engineering for the first time since the downturn environmental health specialists are in strong demand again. However the highest demand is for R&D engineers due to further investment in innovation hubs around the country.
  • In Financial Services Ireland is competing with other financial jurisdictions including Frankfurt, Luxembourg and Paris to attract more banking operations to Ireland. The interest among returning diaspora with this skillset is growing.
  • More niche skillsets are being sought after for regional fund operations in private equity and real estate and the market has been able to meet these demands largely due to talent willing to relocate outside of Dublin.
