Professional job opportunities increase by 9% in April compared to last month
The April 13 Morgan McKinley Irish Employment Monitor registered a 9% increase in new professional job opportunities from March 13 (8,125) to April 13 (8,854). There was however a 1% decrease in the availability of new professional jobs registered compared with the same period last year (8,919).
The number of professionals seeking new job opportunities increased by 5% from 9,500 in March 13 to 9,980 in April 13, representing a slight decrease (4%) compared to April 12 when there were 10,390 professional job seekers in the market.
Karen O’Flaherty, Chief Operations Officer, Morgan McKinley commented:
“An increase of 9% in the number of professional jobs in the Irish market is welcome after two consecutive negative months this year. Furthermore, the minimal annual decrease of 1% compared to March 12 (-12%) is an encouraging sign that the jobs market is stabilising and recovering from the dip we saw last month.
“There is significant hiring activity being generated by multinationals and companies that are specifically export led particularly in the FMCG, technology, manufacturing and food industries. Professionals with inventory management, quality control, regulatory and new product development experience are in particularly high demand.
“The IT and technology market remain strong with an increase in demand for UI, online and digital skills. This trend is reflective across a number of businesses and sectors, where new product and service offerings are displayed and sold online demonstrating changing buying behaviours.
“The dynamic nature of the financial services sector is also being highlighted in job opportunities where ‘hybrid’ professionals are sought. Job titles such as commercial analysts or financial accountants are in demand where a background in different sectors or areas of expertise is added to the mix, affording greater commerciality and value.
“Many operations roles in both finance and office support are looking for a mix of customer service, order management and operational data where cost improvement and efficiencies have been delivered.
“Another indicator suggesting growing confidence in the market is the release of longer term contracts being offered by employers. As visibility and confidence returns many of the jobs being registered are for longer periods of time, typically 12-18 months compared to 6-9 months in the last couple of years.”
