New Year, new start?

Deirdre Sheehan 02.01.2018

The New Year is a time to reflect on the previous year and reflect on the changes we want or need to make.  Similar to New Year’s resolutions, making a career change either in your current company or with a new employer will fail if you haven't though it through or prepared for it properly. Expecting a different result without dramatically changing your approach is a great way to ensure failure, just like last year!

If you are thinking seriously about changing career then don't wait until the New Year to start planning your goals. January is a very busy time for companies recruiting and it’s a time where many companies have budgets and sign off for new hires. Companies tend to move quickly at this time of year and if you are not prepared, you may lose out!

The Christmas holidays are a good time to reflect on the year gone by and what your goals might look like for the New Year. If you’re thinking of changing jobs, it’s vital to consider your situation realistically:

  • salary expectation
  • locations
  • roles you can consider
  • companies you would be interested in.

Then it’s time to update your CV so you are all set for the New Year.

In January I have seen people losing out on their ideal role because they didn't get their up to date CV into the company quickly enough or didn't have clear goals or objectives in place either personally or professionally

As consultants, we like to pride ourselves in offering strong career advice as well as being a part of the overall recruitment process. If you are thinking of changing career please feel free to get in contact, we would be delighted to help!
