A large crowd of business leaders and interested Chamber members embarked on another fantastic episode of the Dublin Chamber’s Leader Series. This time round we had the pleasure of listening to Robert Finnegan, CEO of Three Ireland.
A large crowd of business leaders and Finnegan, a qualified accountant by trade has been at the helm of Ireland's fasting growing Network for a period of 10 years and is now the longest serving CEO in any Irish Telecoms company.
Throughout his entertaining insight he discussed the trials and tribulations as a leading CEO, bringing the crowd through how the recent acquisition on O2 happened and the impact this has had on his role as CEO of Three.
Finnegan worked for a number of Hutchison Whampoa other businesses for 13 years before joining Three as Managing Director. At Hutchison Whampoa, he served as CEO of its beverage division, Watson’s, which employed 3,000 people and had an annual turnover of $200m. Although he has successfully positioned Three as the driving force in Ireland's Telecoms market, he has repeatedly faced adversity and overcome each challenge with a positive outlook.
His advice was quite simple - he admits that regardless of the challenge in front of him, remains positive. He’s a firm believer in a positive approach to challenges or problems, He enlightened the crowd with one of his simple 'rules' -
'Never come to discuss a problem unless you have a suggested solution'.
His thoughts behind this are quite simple - he feels that too many people face challenges already in a negative mindset and that this mindset will inhibit a positive solution. By looking at challenges or problems in a positive light, you’re already on route to creating a solution!
