Morgan McKinley Waterford – Budget Breakfast 2017

Geraldine Butler 12.10.2016

This morning, Morgan McKinley’s Waterford office attended the PWC 2017 Budget Briefing. This was held at Dooley’s Hotel in Waterford and our speakers were Ronan Furlong from PWC and Jim Power, Economist.

It wasn’t the most exciting or indeed detrimental budget for personal finances – it made no effort to reward work - but it was a victory for expenditure over taxation. With increased allocations in spending across the board, you would hope that the improvement in public services will show some benefit to us all when required.

While the failure to adjust the personal income tax bands was a disappointment there was some positive news in the employment space. Unemployment has now fallen to its lowest level since 2008 with just over 2 million people in employment. The growth in employment is equally distributed across all sectors and is showing no signs of abating.

A key point that was mentioned this morning around the employment sector was the difficulties employers were now facing in securing top talent and also in retaining their key staff members. Given the opportunities we can leverage from Brexit (the Financial Services Market has seen significant increases in enquiries of relocating to Ireland post-Brexit), top talent will become even more difficult to source.

Morgan McKinley can assist with all your recruitment needs – we are specialists in our market – and can advise you on the best hiring options for your company. The Waterford office can be contacted on 051 309650.
