Morgan McKinley at the Dublin Web Summit 2013

I had the distinct pleasure of being part of the Morgan McKinley team that attended the Dublin Web Summit over the last two days. This year we went for a quirky approach and went retro with our Nintendo Super Mario Brothers theme (we had an original Nintendo and 80's candy!). Our thinking behind this idea was that we were never going to be able to compete in terms of technology with all the tech giants and amazing start-up's present at the summit. Therefore, we decided that we would go retro and bring people back in time to their youth and have a little fun promoting our brand along the way. The Super Mario Brothers game like Morgan McKinley was also born in the 1980's so that also synced nicely. A big thanks to all who visited our stand, played the game and got into the spirit of things with Mario and Luigi! Here's what the Irish Times wrote about us today.

The Web Summit itself, for those of you that did not make it, was absolutely spectacular. With over 10,000 delegates and speakers such as Elon Musk (Co-founder & CEO of Tesla, SpaceX Solar City), Tony Hawk (Founder - Tony Hawk Foundation), Padmasree Warrior (CTO Cisco) and Drew Houston (Co-founder & CEO Dropbox) to name but a few, all took center stage and enthralled their audiences with the story of their success, the future of their businesses and how they see the technology landscape evolving over the coming years. 100's of start up companies pitched to investors live on stage and 100's of others networked at their stands - many business partnerships, new ideas and investments being made every hour.

I met with Donal Cahalane, CMO - Trustev (eliminating fraud from your e-commerce transactions), a start up out of Cork who have very ambitions plans, have investment secured and are currently hiring. Interestingly, Donal was hired by CEO & Founder Pat Phelan when they met at last years Web Summit - just one of many examples I am sure.

The highlight for me certainly was Enda Kenny opening up the NASDAQ live from the Summit - “It is my great honour to ring the opening bell for the NASDAQ during Europe’s biggest and best tech conference, the Dublin West Summit. Ringing the NASDAQ bell from Dublin is symbolic of Ireland’s prime position as a hub of digital enterprise and innovation." No better message that Ireland is very much back in business. Good man Enda!

350 jobs announced across 10 companies in just one day! Well done to Paddy Cosgrave and all involved - doing a great job for Ireland Inc.!
