Morgan McKinley were happy to help out at Tuesday's Android Expo. This was the culmination of an Android and Advanced Java course offered by Big Wave Media Training.
This Android Expo showcased the latest Android App Projects which have been built for clients. Not only did it showcase the projects, it also showcased the developers graduating from Big Wave’s Android Developer, industry-led training course.
Introduced by Liam Hurrell (@liam_bigwave and @bigwave_AATC), I took to the stage. My message was simple; that the expo was not about Morgan McKinley, it was about the graduates. The expo was about offering the graduates the opportunity to showcase their brilliant projects. And that they did, to an impressive turnout of attendees, made up of various Industry players. After my talk about the state of the Android Recruitment market in Dublin, I gave the stage to the guest speaker for the evening, Alexey Rashevskiy of Appuchino App Development, who gave a masterclass in advanced app building.
On the night, myself and my fellow Morgan McKinley colleague David Banaghan interviewed each of the graduating students individually and charted a plan of action to find these Developers their next job, aiming to match their experience and motivations with the right companies in Dublin.
One of the things that really impresses us about Big Wave is that they are successfully addressing the skills shortage in key areas such as android development.
Another thing that really impressed us, was the calibre of graduates it is producing. And we are delighted to report, after meeting each of the graduates, that they are a very skilled bunch, ready for the workforce. They are really passionate, enthusiastic, skilled people, ready and willing to take up employment. Morgan McKinley are working with Big Wave to try to help graduates find the right employer. See here for a sample of the developers who are available for hire.
These developers each completed a real world assignment on behalf of companies of all shapes and sizes. The companies which benefitted from these wonderful applications, and free labour, where those who had signed up to be a DevLink Programme partner.
All of the applications where really impressive, and each had to be given the green light by CTO's before launch. It is this practical application of knowledge which we feel can really set these developers apart from other job seekers, especially when we consider that they took the brief from development managers, worked amongst teams, always mimicking the environment of a commercial development team.
