In this Summer Jobs Market Review we will be looking at; an overview of the engineering and manufacturing market in general, recent job announcements within the industry, the most frequent roles placed across the country, roles our specialists have placed and the most desirable skills and qualifications sought after by hiring managers at the moment.
Throughout the past quarter, there are certain engineering positions that have seen a increased desire from companies across the country. These have mainly been within the areas of Quality Engineering and Quality Management, extending into senior leadership positions. There has been a large demand in maintenance and facilities roles from mid to senior level, as well Design Engineers with Mechanical, Electrical or Electronic experience. We are seeing an increase for companies to bring in contract professionals within manufacturing, process and project engineering. This is mainly due to site expansions, project demand, innovation and new product introduction. There is a serious lack of talented and qualified individuals to fulfill these roles and companies are doing everything to keep the talent that they have, with counter offers becoming the norm, along with retention bonuses to retain employees.
In terms of job announcements, Irish off-site framing manufacturer Entekra has recently announced an investment of $55m which will bring 100 highly skilled jobs including engineering roles to Monaghan, whilst in Tyrone, Mallaghan Engineering have revealed 210 new roles in manufacturing and engineering as part of their five-year expansion plan which is set to see the company investing millions and undertaking substantial product development meaning an increase in output and hence the need for a larger workforce..
The employment market has seen an increase in the number of competitive sponsorship and relocation packages available to anyone looking to relocate, return to or gain experience in Ireland. Some businesses are working at a fast pace to attract the most qualified professionals, however many still engage in slow hiring processes which leaves them lagging behind in hunt for talent amongst their competitors. In terms of hiring, the most active sectors were Medical Device, Pharma, Automotive, Manufacturing & Heavy industry, Utilities and Precision Engineering.

Software packages such as Solidworks, Ansys, Catia V5, Siemens and Pro E Creo are in highly desirable also.
The ideal job seeker for most roles would have a level 8 degree plus QP qualification and practical experience, For those interested in manufacturing - programming and machining in CNC, MasterCAM, CadCam, Solidworks and FeatureCAM are all among the in-demand skills. There is a shortage of strong candidates with Polymer and plastics experience. Industry experience is still the preferred background, and on most occasions companies are not willing to consider professionals who are coming from an alternative industry, in this candidate shy market this is proving to be a missed opportunities for the clients who are not willing to look outside industry
