How to network like a natural

David Cooney 03.02.2017

At the recent launch of the Waterford branch of Network Ireland, we were treated to an excellent talk from Barbara Moynihan bringing us some wonderful tips to encourage networking naturals!

With the 100+ strong attendance of Waterford businesswomen (along with a few brave men!), we took part in some workshop-style methods, to break the ice and introduce ourselves to new people.

Barbara gave us 6 top tips for networking and as number 6 below indicates Givers Get so we wanted to share them with you again!

  • When introducing yourself, say your first name twice! Rebecca, Rebecca Harrison
  • What you wear is important - on your body AND ON YOUR FACE!  Be fascinated!
  • Get chatty. Ask open questions and listen, it doesn't have to be about business - build the relationship first
  • Answer what you DO, not your job title
  • Concentrate on HOW you say something also - be congruent
  • Give something to the person you're speaking to - Givers Get.  Advice, an introduction, encouragement, referrals etc.

Great to see this national network of women, founded by Waterford Native, Rebecca Harrison who is the current president of Network Ireland, re-launching in the South East.

With this in mind, should you wish to engage with us, please don’t hesitate to contact Tracy Quinlan at tquinlan@morganmckinley.ie to benefit from our expertise and industry insights.
