How Digital Is Changing the Companies We Work In

Digital teams made up of data analysts, business analyst, project managers are now enabling companies to use this information to personalise the marketing.

Digital transformation is about creating better experiences faster for customers, clients, patients among others in a personalised way.  For too long traditional IT departments have been sitting on a wealth of data but not utilising it.
 
Digital teams made up of data analysts, business analyst, project managers are now enabling companies to use this information to personalise the marketing. If you think of the last time you received vouchers from SuperValue, these vouchers were personalise based on your previous grocery shop. Some significant shifts in company structure have come about due to digital transformation:
 

1. The Chief Digital Officer:

This is an emerging role on the C-suite and has come about as the bridge between the Chief Technology Officer (who is typically responsibly for legacy systems) and the Chief Marketing Officer.  Mike Sutcliff, CEO of Digital Accenture sees the CDO as the person who does the advertising technology, marketing technology, commerce and content.  He believes that the role of CDO will be a temporary role and that it will blend into the technology role.

2. The Digital Department:

I am currently working with a client who is going through the largest digital transformation programme in Ireland at the moment.   They are in the midst of setting up a digital department to sit alongside the IT and marketing department.  This is where The UI/UX people will sit, alone with the online data analyst among others, business analyst and project managers.  Will this be a temporary department that will also blend into other departments in the future?  Only time will tell?

3. Recruitment Agencies:

The best recruitment companies are the ones that are proactive.  They have enough market knowledge to realise they need to specialise in this area. At the moment when a digital role comes in there is very often a cross over between the marketing and IT desks.  So is it time that we set up a digital desk?  I was chatting to my brother in law who is a partner in a boutique recruitment agency in Brisbane, he mentioned that they have just set up a digital desk in their firm.
 
It is clear the digital world we live in is constantly changing and at a fast pace.  If organisations are to survive they need to embrace this.  If you are looking for expertise in the digital space, I am currently working with some excellent business analysts and project managers who are specialized in digital.
