Highest Ever Level of Employment in Ireland – The Boom is Back!

David Foley 04.12.2018

Ireland is currently experiencing its highest ever level of employment but what does this mean and where can you find these jobs?

Ibec have welcomed the increase in the number of people at work as new CSO figures show that the number of people employed in the third quarter of the year rose by 3%, or 66,700, to 2,273,200 - a new record high. Employment levels have now grown for 25 consecutive quarters – a trend that will hopefully continue for the foreseeable future.

With employment levels rising to a record high this has seen a knock on effect on unemployment which fell by 2,900 to 136,100 in the three-month period. Unemployment rates are now estimated to be nearing a 10 year low at between 5.3% and 5.5%.

These numbers are extremely positive and reflect how the Irish economy has bounced back from the crash and how it has grown significantly – especially in the past two or three years.

Having recruited in the Financial Services Industry in Cork since 2016 with Morgan McKinley I’ve noticed first-hand the increase in opportunities available to Finance professionals.

There has never been a better time to be looking to make a career move and this is indicated by the fact that employee turnover is back at 2007 levels. Employers are struggling to retain staff as employees have recognised that their experience and skills are in demand in today's market and that the grass might be greener on the other side – by making a move they can expedite career progression, demand increased salaries, improved benefits and a shorter commute or the option of working from home.

That leads us to the question of “Where can you find these jobs?”.  My advice is to speak to a recruiter who specializes in recruiting in your industry. That is exactly what we do here at Morgan McKinley.

As mentioned above, I specialise in Financial Services so if you are interested in exploring opportunities in Investments, Banking, Fintech, Funds, Trading, Compliance & Risk, Insurance or Analyst Roles (Sales, Pricing, Forecasting, Investment, Finance) then contact me for a confidential discussion and I’ll happily run though possible opportunities with you.

Here are some other industries that we specialize in and if you click on your relevant area it will direct you to a list of available opportunities where you can also find an experienced recruiter who specializes in that industry. This is the best port of call to offer you advice on your next Career move.
