Cork recruitment round-up 2010

Bryan Hyland 21.12.2010

In Cork, multinationals continued to provide the highest volume of new professional opportunities throughout 2010, with the strongest recruitment demand coming from the IT and shared services sectors. Following a challenging first half of the year, the financial services and SME sectors showed some signs of a recovery in H2, which is hopefully the start of a long awaited revival.

Temporary and contract positions continue to be a very important part of the employment mix; a positive indicator as companies hire to cover holiday, sick and maternity leave in particular.

In 2010, there was a significant increase in demand for multilingual candidates, who were highly sought after in the finance, customer service and inside sales arenas.

Cork continues to attract new start-up operations such as Otterbox and Acadia. Several companies expanded their Cork operations in 2010, including Eli Lilly, Apple, VMware, Pepsi and EMC – which is reflective of the strong talent pool of well qualified and experienced candidates.

Morgan McKinley is forecasting a strong growth market in 2011, as each desk within our business – Finance, IT, Technical, Office Support / Multilingual – are all planning recruitment activities.
