Big 4 experience - what can it do for your career?

Jay Davitt, ACA 13.09.2013

In recent months, Morgan McKinley has seen a substantial increase in roles within Big 4 practices nationwide. These roles are across a variety of specialties such as audit, tax, corporate finance, advisory and internal audit.

What can Big 4 experience do for you and your career?

If you’re an experienced Big 4 candidate then you will typically have a lot of different opportunities in industry or practice. For a lot of strong candidates coming from 'Top 10' practices, the Big 4 can offer you an opportunity to gain exposure to large multinational clients across a variety of industries.

Without a doubt, Big 4 experience strengthens a CV and will open doors to industry and practice that typically prove very difficult to open for someone coming from a small/medium or large local practice.

How can I get into one of the Big 4

Ideally, the Big 4 practices want Big 4 candidates but this isn’t always achievable. If you are an experienced audit, tax or corporate finance professional coming from a 'Top 10' or large local practice you will be considered. Due to the size of Big 4 clients, it's essential that you’re experienced in dealing with multinational clients. For example; typically in audit, you'll need consistent exposure to company audits with an annual T/O greater than €20m.

Working in a Big 4 practice will provide any hard working, ambitious professional with an opportunity to progress to assistant manager/manager position in a relatively short period of time. Also, salaries for fully qualified & experienced practice professionals in Big 4 can be anywhere between 10% - 20% higher than smaller practices.
