5 Top Tips for Writing your QC CV

With so many opportunities available in the QC market across Ireland, candidates are actively seeking exciting new roles.

To make sure your CV is giving you the best representation, see my top 5 tips below on what your CV should include: 

  1. Clear and to the point
    Having a clearly laid out CV is crucial to your success when applying for roles. QC Managers are extremely busy and don’t have time to go through pages of information on a CV. By making your CV concise, to the point and highlighting the relevant experience to that role, you are making your CV more attractive to that manager and increasing their interest.
  2. Personal Profile
    This is a great way to introduce your CV to a hiring manager. Your profile should be a brief overview of your CV including your Science degree, work experience including years of HPLC/ wet chemistry and GMP experience and any highlights of your industrial achievements including projects. 
  3. Education I recruit for various QC roles but for each role the requirement is always “Minimum third level degree in Chemistry/Science related discipline”. Displaying your educational background is an absolute must for a QC CV. Any qualification in Lean six sigma is also a desirable qualification to show on your CV.
  4. Skill Set The most common skill QC managers look for in the pharmaceutical industry is HPLC. It is really important to have this clearly displayed on your CV. Rather than displaying all of your skills under one separate heading, it is much more beneficial to include your analytical skills under each role. That way the QC Manager can see exactly how long you spent doing each test. For example: Company X: Jan 1st 2016 - 31st Dec 2018  -Daily use of HPLC (Waters and Agilent) including sample prep, running samples, data interpretation and troubleshooting -Wet chemistry including Karl Fischer, pH, LOD ….. (Bullet pointing is advisable for this section so your experience and skill set can be seen clearly)
  5. Tailor your CV
    Before applying for a role, it is important to research the company to make sure the information you include in your CV is relevant to the role you are applying for. For example,  if you are applying for a role in the Biopharmaceutical industry, include any relevant experience on your CV. Take note of what companies are looking for on their job specs and include this in your CV.
