As the complex regulations around financial services continue to grow we are seeing an increased demand in risk management. Data protection and cyber security continue to be at the forefront of these new regulations and with the impending general data protection regulation (GDPR) companies need professionals that can ensure their risk framework is ready and external risks are mitigated.
Over the latter half of 2017 companies started to execute their Brexit transformation plans which has been a key driver in the increased hiring within risk. As companies move their European headquarters to Ireland and international companies build out their risk function, the demand for cross-border experience has risen and as a result is starting to attract professionals with international experience back to Ireland.
Operational risk professionals experienced in governance and overseeing first line defense are continuing to be in demand. Enterprise risk is also an area of increased demand which is attracting high-calibre professional job seekers who see this as the future of risk from a top down perspective.
Risk is the one area where we are definitely seeing a more mobile workforce with professionals from London, Singapore, Luxembourg, New York, and further afield willing to relocate for the right role. Although Ireland has a growing professional sector falling under the category of “risk”, there is room to grow and attracting talent from overseas is helping to build out further expertise. We are also seeing Irish professionals who have worked in this space abroad relocating back to Ireland as this area has significantly matured.
As the financial services sector becomes more competitive and regulations become more complex we expect to see a continued demand for risk professionals throughout 2018.
