Commentary on Accountancy & Finance Roles and Contract Rates in Ireland for 2018

Contract and interim talent continues to offer companies hiring solutions for short and medium term assignments. As the market continue to improve, many organisations require additional resources and the option of hiring contractors allow the fluidity and flexibility that is needed.

2017 has shown that organisations are using contracting solutions for project work and for providing cover for maternity cover, sick leave and other short-term assignments, for qualified and part-qualified roles.

The supply of professional job seekers has been adequate although generally lower than previous years due to the continued improvement in the permanent market.  This has resulted in professionals receiving multiple offers and improved benefits.

We have however, seen an increase in expats who are open to considering contract positions while transitioning back home.  Their international experience is highly sought after and gives them many short-term options while making longer term career and locational decisions.  Companies are being put in a position where they need to make quick decisions to ensure they secure top talent.  They also need to consider the length of contracts on offer. We have seen contracts being offered for 12 months and even longer than that.

For companies seeking to differentiate themselves as an employer of choice, a trend has moved to payment of a completion bonus to ensure the full duration of the contract is fulfilled along with offering additional incentives such as study days.  There has also been a distinct shift towards flexible working hours, remote working and shortened working weeks in order to attract working parents back to the workplace.

Contract and interim roles continue to give professionals the opportunity to gain exposure to different industries and project work.  We anticipate continuous demand within the contract and interim space for the duration of 2018.
