Job Description
Buyer / Planner
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of every aspect of inventory throughout the plant and ensure inventory goals are achieved
- Planning and purchasing of the necessary materials from selected vendors to support production and assisting in the sourcing of vendors where necessary
- Scheduling material through manufacturing to ensure production is supported at all times
- Identify and develop systems solutions and enhancements to improve productivity
- Sourcing of new raw materials / vendors where requires
- Manage and control the material vendor base
- Maintain a contract price file and approved vendor listing
- Initiate cost reduction programmes where opportunities exist e.g. by pursuing new vendors for most cost effective purchases
- Be proactive in auditing material vendors with relevant QA /Engineering personnel
- Chair vendor meetings
- Ensure all aspects of employee training and development are undertaken including timely performance appraisal and ongoing counselling which will motivate and enhance staff performance
- To develop and implement appropriate communication methods, this includes holding monthly meeting with staff
- To constantly review and ensure a safe working environment and that necessary training and awareness programmes are in place
- To understand company rules/regulations and ensure staff conform to them
- To ensure company integrity is upheld with all company vendors
Qualifications/Experience
- The suitable candidate should have at least 3-5 years' experience in supply chain\materials management
- A relevant Third Level Degree with B.Comm or equivalent
- Excellent working knowledge of SAP is essential, in addition to in-depth skills in
Microsoft EXCEL, ACCESS, Powerpoint, Word and ideally Visio - Excellent communication skills, both verbally and written are required.
